Training for a 5K

Motivation is everywhere.
I love 5Ks! 5Ks are fast and they are fun! Whereas it will take me 6+ hours to do a marathon and 3+ hours to do a half, I can finish a 5K in less than 1 hour. And I can usually run a 5K because of the shorter distance and the impact on my body, so that in itself is quite an amazing feeling.

It is very important to follow a training program and checking first with your health care personnel. This is a great way to start a running or walking program. 5Ks have the same energy, large crowds, and the LA BIG 5K, as part of the ASICS LA Marathon weekend, even has a medal!

When I wanted to get back onto running I downloaded an app called Ease into 5K, other apps are called couch to 5K. These are convenient training programs right on your phone.

Here is the link for suggested app: Ease into 5K

The LA Big 5K is the day before the ASICS LA Marathon, marathoners can sign up for both and have a pre-race before the marathon. Now that is hard-core.

You may want to consider if your goal is to run a 5K to look for smaller running groups. Many of the shoe stores in the area have group running nights. I have to say the running and walking community is highly supportive. Happy training!

Big smiles after the Big 5K!
